§ 30-175. Penalty for violation of article.

  • (a)

    General penalty. Violation of this article is hereby designated as a municipal civil infraction; and a civil fine in an amount not to exceed $500.00, plus costs, shall be paid by the defendant who is found responsible for each such civil infraction. Violators shall also be subject to sanctions, remedies and procedures as set forth in Act No. 236 of the Public Acts of Michigan of 1961 (MCL 600.101 et seq., MSA 27A.101 et seq.), as amended.

    (b)

    Fines paid at violations bureau. If the civil fine is paid at the city municipal violations bureau, the initial fine shall be $25.00.

    (1)

    In the case of another offense within one year of the date of the initial infraction, the civil fine shall be $50.00. This shall be known as the second offense.

    (2)

    In the case of another offense within one year of the date of the second offense, the civil fine shall be $100.00. This shall be known as the third offense.

    (3)

    In the case of another offense within one year of the third offense, the civil fine shall be $100.00. This shall be known as the fourth offense. All subsequent offenses shall be $100.00.

    (c)

    Authority for violations bureau to accept civil fines. The city municipal violations bureau is hereby authorized to accept civil fines in the amounts above specified. In the case of payment at the violations bureau, no costs shall be imposed or collected.
